James Hardie Wood Tone Siding Replacement on Stagecoach Trail in Lyons, Colorado

The Problem

Stacey and Keith's home on Stagecoach Trail in Lyons, CO had cedar lap siding that was showing significant damage and dry rot. The siding was about 23 years old, and the deterioration had spread far enough across the house that repairing and staining wasn't a very cost effective option. Like most homeowners in the Lyons area, they were also very aware of, and interested in improving their homes resistance to wildfire.

What We Did

They had been drawn to the look of a stained wood finish from the start, and James Hardie's Wood Tone Rustic Series in Old Cherry was the right fit. It delivers the warm, natural appearance of stained wood, which they were used to, but with the durability and fire resistance of fiber cement. The trim was installed in Timber Bark, a deep tone that complements the wood-look siding and gives the home a clean, finished look. Originally, we considered using Wood Tone for the trim, soffit, and fascia, which drove up the project cost. Their WestPro project consultant, Andy, recommended using a standard Hardie color for the trim, soffit, and fascia. Instead of "matching" they decided to use trim, soffit, and fascia that compliment the wood stain color of the siding, while keeping the project cost down. This is a smart strategy that we will continue to recommend to other homeowners. They loved their siding design renderings, which helped them visualize their siding color options.

New gutters were also installed to complete the project and protect the new siding from water runoff at the roofline.

One detail worth noting: Keith and Stacey had originally hoped to use James Hardie's then-upcoming TimberHue product, but that line had no confirmed release date for the Mountain Market at the time of the project. The team worked with them to find the best available alternative, and the Wood Tone Rustic Series in Old Cherry did end up being a great match for what they were looking for.

Project Details

The home on Stagecoach Trail is a full two-story house with and detached garage, and our scope of work included replacement of the siding, soffit, fascia, trim, and gutters on both the home and the garage. The project required removing the old cedar lap siding from both structures before the new James Hardie lap siding be installed. WestPro's siding crew then installed new house wrap (breathable siding underlayment, flashings, new Hardie trim, soffit, and fascia.

The Result

This project was completed by WestPro Home Exteriors in 2026. Keith and Stacey were very happy with the finished result, and by the time the final walk-through happened, Keith had already been recommending WestPro to friends and neighbors. It's a great outcome for a home that deserved a fresh start, and we at WestPro are very proud of how this siding replacement project turned out.
