James Hardie Siding Replacement with Soffit and Fascia on Sunlight Drive in Longmont, Colorado
The Problem
Sarah and her mother had been living with aging vinyl siding on their Sunlight Drive home in Longmont, CO for years, and she was interested budgeting and planning to invest in a more durable siding material with fewer maintenance issues and costs.
Why It Needed Replacing
With the full exterior needing attention, replacing everything at once made more financial sense than reapiring or replacing in sections that would likely need attention again soon after. With budget finalized, Sarah's Longmont home was ready for full siding replacement with James Hardie Siding.
What We Did
We replaced the vinyl siding with 8.25" (7" Exposure) James Hardie HardiePlank lap siding in Monterey Taupe, with 3.5" James Hardie Arctic White trim (HardieTrim) throughout. Sarah initially considered adding a belly band and board-and-batten accents, but after talking it over with her mom, she simplified the design to a clean, all-lap look that suited both of them.
During demo, and removal of the old vinyl siding the crew uncovered potential mold in the insulation near the chimney, which was addressed as a change order before new siding went on. The soffit also required framing before installation could proceed, and a section of the wall along the concrete foundation needed additional framing built in to give the siding a proper base to attach to. All of that was handled on-site and signed off before work continued.
Project Details
The project covered the full exterior of the home on Sunlight Drive in Longmont, CO, including lap siding, soffit, and fascia. Two change orders were added during the job: framing for the soffit and additional wall framing along the concrete foundation on the northeast corner of the house, where the original vinyl had been adhered directly to the foundation. We discussed them with the homeowner and she agreed that they were necessary. A small insulation replacement near the chimney was also added after demo revealed moisture build up and potential mold behind the wall sheathing.
The Result
This project was completed by WestPro Home Exteriors in 2026. Sarah was happy with how the finished exterior turned out, and throughout the job she went out of her way to share kind words about the crew and the attention they brought to her home. It was a pleasure working with her and her mother. She was a pleasure to work with.
Price Context
This project represents a fairly typical home we work on. It required a little over 2,000 square feet of James Hardie ColorPlus siding, and customers can expect to pay about $20 to $23 per square foot installed for 8.25" Cedarmill James Hardie ColorPlus Siding. That rate covers full tear-off and disposal, housewrap, Z-flashing, penetration flashing, standard 3.5" HardieTrim, mounting blocks, permit, and all labor. It does not include sheathing repair, removal of an additional siding layer, rain screen installation, or specialty trim upgrades, any of which would affect the total siding replacement cost. Costs on similar projects along the Colorado Front Range vary based on scope, site access, and the options selected. This reflects WestPro project data and current Front Range supplier costs, and is not a formal estimate.
