The Problem
Ryan's home on Snead Court in Longmont, CO was built in 1996 and still had its original wood-frame windows, several of them set into the home's brick sections on the west side. A hailstorm a couple of weeks before our inspection left clear damage on top of wood frames that had already started to soften and rot over the years. Ryan also asked us to take a look at his wood siding while we were out there, just for peace of mind, though the siding itself wasn't showing signs that warranted work at this time.
Why It Needed Replacing
Inspection identified 3 windows with clear hail damage and 2 more with marginal damage, all on wood frames already deteriorating from age and moisture exposure. Ryan's insurance adjuster initially considered whether the wood frames could simply be repaired rather than fully replaced, and brought in a window specialist to make that call. Once the full extent of the damage was confirmed, the claim was approved for complete window replacement rather than a repair.
What We Did
We removed the 5 damaged wood-frame windows on the west side of the home and installed Pella Impervia Series fiberglass-frame windows in white, chosen for their durability against Colorado's hail and temperature swings. The new windows matched the home's existing openings: two custom-shaped windows, one slider, and two picture windows. Existing interior and exterior trim was kept in place and caulked to the new windows rather than replaced.

The Result
Ryan now has durable, low-maintenance fiberglass windows in place of the original wood-frame windows that had been rotting and were further damaged by hail. Ryan shared that he's happy with the new windows.
