Project Coordinated by Customer Service TeamCustom Glass Entry Door Replacement on Hampshire Street in Boulder, CO
The Problem
This home on Hampshire Street in Boulder, Colorado, built in 1972, had an original French front entry door that was structurally fine but let in very little natural light. The homeowner wanted a fresh, more modern look at the front entry and a lot more glass to brighten the entryway.
Why It Needed Replacing
The existing door wasn't damaged. This was a style and light upgrade rather than a repair. The homeowner had a budget in mind and wanted to explore double-door configurations with more glass than the original French door offered, since the front of the home wasn't getting much natural light.
What We Did
We replaced the existing French front entry door with a Waudena Weston Fiberglass double door featuring three-panel Clear Low-Energy glass on both the active and inactive slabs, finished in Symphony on the interior and exterior. The door has a brushed smooth skin texture, aluminum pre-fit frame cladding in black, and a Dura Frame primed jamb with a Light Oak interior prefinish. Hardware includes a Latitude keyed entry lever with Century trim in matte black, ball bearing hinges in matte black, a bronze astragal, and an articulating dark bronze sill with a black threshold. The active slab was configured with a right hand hinge and left hand inswing, with the inactive slab set opposite. No storm door was installed.
Project Details
This is a single entry door opening with a double-door configuration, an overall width of 5'-4" and a door height of 6'-8", replacing the home's original front entry door. The project was completed in May 2026.
Materials Used
- Waudena Entry Doors – Weston Fiberglass Double Door, Symphony finish
- Clear Low-Energy Glass
- Latitude Keyed Entry Lever with Century Trim, Matte Black
The Result
This project took a bit longer than expected. Along the way, the team worked through an additional round of energy code verification with Boulder County to confirm the door's glazing met local requirements, and a change order was needed to account for the home's slightly non-standard door opening. Because the opening didn't quite match a standard size, our crew made some on-site adjustments during installation to ensure a proper, code-compliant fit. Throughout the process, the WestPro team kept Nadya updated on progress, and she stayed satisfied with how things were handled. Once the door was installed, the only remaining punchlist item was a transition strip, which was resolved quickly, and the finished door now brings noticeably more natural light into the front of the home.
Price Context
Homeowners considering a similar custom entry door replacement in Colorado today should generally expect pricing to fall in a wide range, often somewhere between $5,000 and $15,000 depending on configuration, glass, and hardware selections, since custom double doors with extensive glass cost significantly more than a standard single door replacement.
Pricing can vary significantly depending on factors such as door configuration (single versus double), glass style and coverage, hardware and finish selections, jamb and frame specifications, and whether a storm door is included.
