Wind Damage Roof Replacement with GAF ArmorShield II on Poplar Avenue in Boulder, Colorado
The Problem
Maria's home on Poplar Avenue in Boulder, CO took a hit from high winds that tore shingles off the roof. The damage was widespread enough that a repair wasn't the best option, and with the roof already about 30 years old, a full replacement was the right call to avoid future problems. The high winds in Boulder are just not going away anytime soon.
Why It Needed Replacing
At 30 years old, the roof had already lived a full life, and the wind damage pushed it well past the point where patching made sense. Repairing scattered shingle loss on an aging roof typically leads to more repairs down the road, so replacing it now was the more reliable and cost-effective path forward.
What We Did
Maria came to us as a returning customer, which we always appreciate. She had already filed a claim with her insurance carrier, and before signing, her daughter took the time to check whether upgrading to a Class 4 impact-resistant shingle would qualify for a discount on their policy. It did, and that made the decision easy.
We replaced the roof with GAF ArmorShield II shingles in Pewter Gray, a Class 4 impact-resistant product that carries one of the strongest hail ratings available while staying within a reasonable budget. For homeowners in Colorado, the insurance savings from a Class 4 roof often offset a meaningful portion of the upgrade cost compared to a standard shingle. One detail worth noting: because the home falls within Boulder's Wildfire Zone, we swapped the originally specified ridge vent for GAF Cobra Mesh Roll, a Class A fire-rated product required to meet city code. There was no change in price, just the right material for the location.
The project did require a mid-roof inspection with the City of Boulder before installation could be completed, which pushed the schedule back a couple of weeks. Maria had some understandable questions about the delay and our project manager addressed each one directly and in writing. Once the inspection was coordinated and the work could move forward, the installation went smoothly. The final city inspection passed, Maria confirmed she was happy with the work, and the project closed out without any outstanding issues.

The Result
This project was completed by WestPro Home Exteriors in 2026. Maria was happy with the final result, and the post-installation walkthrough confirmed the work met the mark. It's a good example of the kind of wind damage replacement work WestPro handles regularly for homeowners in Boulder and across the Colorado Front Range.
Roofing replacement projects using GAF Armorshield shingles typically start at around $7.18 per sq. ft. However, with very steep pitches like this home, additional leak barrier, ridge vent, and hand loading costs associated with the steep pitches, customers in the Boulder area can expect cost estimates up to $9 per sq. ft. for smaller, very steep roofs like this.
