Roof Replacement, James Hardie Siding Replacement, and Gutter Installation in Lyons, CO – Hail Damage Insurance Claim

Project Summary

We completed a full roof replacement, siding update, and gutter installation on this Lyons, CO home in November 2025. Our team installed GAF Timberline ArmorShield II shingles in Barkwood alongside James Hardie HardiePlank Lap Siding in Primed white and a new seamless aluminum gutter system. The project spanned ten days to address the hail-damaged roof and aging cedar siding.

The Problem

When Steve reached out to us, he was looking for a complete exterior refresh after years of maintenance on his Lyons home. He wanted to replace the old wood siding on the garage with durable fiber cement and update the ventilation in the main house attic while addressing hail damage found during our initial inspection.

The roof showed significant signs of wear from hail impacts, making repairs impractical for long-term protection. The existing cedar siding had also reached the end of its useful life, requiring full replacement rather than patching to prevent further moisture issues and rot.

Why It Needed Replacing

Repairing the hail-damaged shingles would have left aged underlayment and worn decking in place, creating a risk for future leaks. Replacing the entire roof system brought the structure up to current building codes with modern impact-resistant materials that match throughout, while new siding eliminated the maintenance burden of rotting wood.

What We Did

We started by removing the old cedar siding from the garage and preparing the exterior for new James Hardie products. Our team installed James Hardie 8.25-inch HardiePlank Lap Siding in Primed, along with matching James Hardie Panel Siding in Primed and James Hardie HardieTrim in Primed to update the look of the garage exterior.

For the roofing work on both the main home and garage, we installed GAF WeatherWatch Leak Barrier and IKO Stormshield Ice & Water Barrier for protection against water intrusion. We then applied ABC Pro Guard 20 Synthetic Underlayment across the roof deck before installing GAF Timberline ArmorShield II Shingles in Barkwood, which are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles. To secure the edges and valleys, we used GAF Pro-Start Starter Strip. The ridge was finished with GAF Seal-A-Ridge AS Ridge Cap Shingles in Barkwood. As part of the additional scope, our crew installed new drip edge along the eaves and rakes, new step flashing, new pipe jack flashing, and new roof vents including a GAF Cobra Snow Country Intake Vent. Finally, we completed the project by installing 54 linear feet of a 5-inch Seamless Aluminum Gutter System.

Project Details

This project covered both the main home and an attached garage structure in Lyons. The roof replacement involved 53.9 squares of shingles across a complex layout with 13 facets and a predominant pitch of 4/12. The siding work included 829 square feet of new material covering 12 window and door openings, with three inside corners and three outside corners requiring precise trim fitting.

The entire scope was coordinated over ten days to manage the multiple trade aspects efficiently. We finished all installation work in November 2025.

Price Context

This project is representative of a GAF ArmorShield II Shingles roof replacement in the Lyons area. Because no two homes are identical, the final cost varies from home to home based on what the specific structure needs.

The price covers a full tear-off and replacement, permit, and labor. Homeowners considering a similar GAF ArmorShield II Shingles project in Colorado should generally expect pricing in the range of $6.75–$8.50/sq ft installed.

Homeowners considering a comparable James Hardie Primed siding replacement in Colorado today should generally expect pricing between $19.00 and $23.00 per sq ft installed for the siding itself, with re-sheathing, soffit, and fascia work priced as additional scope on top of that baseline.

Pricing varies based on roof size, pitch, and the number of existing shingle layers. It is also important to consider that many Colorado insurance carriers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs, which can help offset the initial investment over time. Pricing reflects WestPro project data and current Colorado Front Range supplier costs. For an exact price on your home, the best next step is a free, no-obligation inspection.

The Result

Finished in November 2025, this Lyons home now features a unified exterior with clean lines from the primed fiber cement siding and a durable Barkwood roof. The new Class 4 impact-resistant shingles provide robust protection against hail while matching the ridge caps for a seamless appearance. Projects like this are common throughout Lyons, where older cedar siding and aging roofs often require full replacement to meet modern durability standards.
