Project Coordinated by Customer Service TeamRoof Replacement on University Avenue in Boulder, Colorado - Class 4 Impact Resistant
The Problem
Anastasia and Bob's home on University Avenue in Boulder, CO had an aging three-tab shingle roof showing widespread natural deterioration and surface crazing. The inspection also turned up a mixed ventilation system with no intake ventilation at all. With the roof in that condition, a full replacement was the right call rather than patching a surface that had reached the end of its life.
Why It Needed Replacing
The three-tab shingles had deteriorated across the entire roof surface, not just in isolated spots, so there was no practical way to repair selectively and expect reliable results.
What We Did
Anastasia and Bob chose GAF ArmorShield II shingles in Weathered Wood, a Class 4 impact-resistant shingle. For a home in Boulder, that rating matters. Colorado hail is a real concern, and the Class 4 designation is the highest impact-resistance rating available, which also made Anastasia and Bob eligible for an insurance discount that helped offset the upgrade cost. The Weathered Wood color was a natural fit for the neighborhood aesthetic.
We tore off the old three-tab roof and installed the GAF ArmorShield II shingles along with a ventilation upgrade to address the lack of intake ventilation found during the inspection. Slant-back vents were installed as part of that upgrade, along with a split boot, skylight flashing, and counter flashing at the front overhang. The project also included a small amount of redecking at the shed. Installation was completed in November 2025, the final inspection passed, and the GAF warranty was registered following completion. A roof certificate confirming the Class 4 shingle installation was provided to Anastasia and Bob to share with their insurance agent.
Project Details
The roof on this home on University Avenue in Boulder, CO is a steep-slope installation. The scope included a full tear-off and replacement across the entire roof surface, a ventilation upgrade, skylight flashing, counter flashing at the front overhang, and a small redecking area at the shed. The steep pitch added a layer of complexity to the installation and required careful attention to crew safety, which factored into a one-day weather delay during the project.
The Result
This project was completed by WestPro Home Exteriors in 2025. Anastasia and Bob were happy with the final result, and the install report rated both the homeowners and the crew an A+ for attitude. Communication stayed clear throughout, and the project finished to a high standard.
