Project Coordinated by Customer Service TeamJames Hardie Siding Replacement and Gutter Replacement on Caballero Street in Longmont, CO - Straight Edge Shingle Accent Design
The Problem
The home on Caballero Street in Longmont, CO had aging composite siding that had been deteriorating and warping across the full exterior. Mike found WestPro through the James Hardie website while researching his options and came in already weighing James Hardie fiber cement against vinyl. After an inspection and consultation, he moved forward with a full exterior replacement in James Hardie.
Why It Needed Replacing
The existing siding had reached the end of its useful life. Composite siding has a limited lifespan, and this one had run its course. Replacing the full exterior at once was more practical and cost effective than repairing material that was failing throughout.
What We Did
The project kicked off with a pre-con walkthrough with Mike to go through the house and flag the tricky areas before any material came off. The house was largely straightforward but had a few details that needed planning upfront. The north side had old wooden windows that needed coil wrapping on the top and bottom, with 8" and 12" Hardie trim installed in between to give the window surrounds a clean, finished look. On the south side, the rafters along the window wall were projecting past the wall plane, so the crew trimmed them back flush so they'd sit neatly underneath the new siding without creating a bulge or gap. The garage soffits were also re-framed as part of the scope since the originals were flat, and Mike wanted them re-angled to match the pitch of the house soffits for a more consistent look across the full exterior.
Before any siding went up, the crew replaced the existing sheathing with new OSB across both the house and the garage due to a change order identified at the pre-con and approved by Mike before work began. The garage came off first, with the house torn off and wrapped close behind. By day two the garage already had new siding going up and the house was fully wrapped and ready.
We installed James Hardie HardiePlank 8.25" (7" Exposure) Cedarmill ColorPlus lap siding in Gray Slate with Arctic White HardieTrim throughout, Pearl Gray straight edge shingle panels at the roofline, and completed the exterior with new seamless 5" white gutters.

The home on Caballero Street is a single-story residence with approximately 1,964 sq. ft. of siding facade area and 2,885 sq. ft. of total siding and trim scope, including 31 window and door openings, 9 inside corners, 14 outside corners, and a full roofline trim package covering eaves fascia, rakes fascia, level frieze board, and sloped frieze board. The project included two change orders: full OSB sheathing replacement on the house and garage, and eave and rafter modifications on the south window wall.

The Result
This project was completed by WestPro Home Exteriors in March 2025. Mike was happy with the finished result at the final walkthrough and said he would definitely recommend WestPro. Projects like this are common throughout Longmont and across the Colorado Front Range, where aging composite siding on homes built in the 1980s is a frequent driver of full exterior replacements. Mike even called us back later in 2025 to replace the roof and the siding on his barn house!
Price Context
This project is representative of a typical James Hardie ColorPlus siding replacement in Longmont. Homeowners can generally expect to pay $20–$24 per sq. ft. installed for James Hardie ColorPlus factory-finished siding. That rate covers full tear-off and disposal, housewrap, Z-flashing, penetration flashing, standard HardieTrim, mounting blocks, permit, and all labor. It does not include sheathing repair, removal of an additional siding layer, or specialty trim upgrades, any of which would affect the total cost.
